If your render looks pitch black or completely washed out after loading a preset, do not panic. The preset's camera exposure value (EV) might be tuned for a different light intensity. Go to the settings rollout and slide the Exposure Value up (to darken) or down (to brighten) until your image is perfectly balanced.
