A turning point arrived on her sixteenth birthday. Her father gifted her a book featuring the artwork of French master Paul Cézanne. Though initially disappointed—hoping for a car like many teenagers—she soon became mesmerized by Cézanne’s vibrant use of color and geometry. This book sparked a lifelong passion. She went on to study formal fine art, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in studio art from Sweet Briar College in Virginia in 1980.
