The Army is not fooled for long. They send in the sharp and resourceful Major Ajit Arya (Nana Patekar) to track down the fugitive colonel by posing as a Bengali journalist named "Shambhu Babu". Ajit successfully locates and confronts Balbir. However, after hearing the colonel’s compelling evidence about the Home Minister’s treachery—including a plot to bomb a revered temple during the Navratri festival—Major Ajit Arya makes a pivotal decision. He abandons his official orders and joins forces with the renegade colonel to bring down the corrupt system from within.
The story follows Colonel Balbir Singh Sodhi (Amitabh Bachchan), who goes into hiding under the identity of "Dadabhai" after a failed attempt to assassinate a corrupt Home Minister, Veerbhadra Singh (Danny Denzongpa), who is in league with a terrorist named Ghafoor Changezi.
