Gong 2000 emerged during a period of transition for its core members, who were famously associated with the legendary rock band God Bless. Spearheaded by Ian Antono and supported by his wife Titiek Saelan, the project grew out of "Bengkel Musik Gong" (Gong Music Workshop)—a community designed to mentor talented young rock musicians and revitalize the genre.
