The word Qunoot (القنوت) literally translates to "standing," "obedience," "humility," or "supplication." In Islamic terminology, it refers to a specific supplication recited while standing after the bowing (Ruku) in the final rak'ah of the Witr prayer. Witr is the odd-numbered prayer performed after the Isha (night) prayer and is considered Wajib (necessary) or Sunnah Mu'akkadah (emphasized Sunnah) depending on the school of thought.
