Born in the crucible of World War I around 1916 in Zurich, Switzerland, Dada was a radical and provocative reaction to the senseless violence of the war. Its followers rejected logic, reason, and traditional aesthetic values, embracing chaos, irrationality, and nihilism as a form of protest against the establishment they blamed for the war's horrors.
