In an effort to block the popular "Free Memory Card Boot" (FMCB) homebrew exploit, Sony revised the system software. This exploit allowed users to run custom code directly from a memory card. Starting with V2.30, Sony removed the system's ability to perform updates from a memory card, effectively closing the loophole that FMCB relied on. Consequently, the SCPH-90006 with its V2.30 BIOS is one of the few PS2 models completely incompatible with standard FMCB installation.
