Before diving into the specifics of saving your game progress, it's essential to understand how Forza Horizon 5's save system works. The game utilizes a cloud-based save system, which allows your progress to be synced across multiple platforms, including Xbox and PC (via Microsoft Store). This means that your save data is stored online, and you can access it from any device with an internet connection.
If the save file contains impossibly obtained cars (e.g., the Ford De Luxe "V8" from a future series) or a credit balance that doesn't match your playtime, you risk a permanent ban from the online portion of the game. You become a ghost. You can still drive alone in Mexico, but you will never see another player, a convoy, or a seasonal event again.
The WGS system is finicky. One wrong bit during the XUID swap, and your entire profile corrupts. When you launch the game, it asks you to "Start a new game." Your old save is gone, and the cloud backup now sees the corrupted file as the "latest" version. You lose everything—including your legitimate progress.
Overwrite the old file with the newly renamed downloaded file. Step 4: Manage Xbox Cloud Synchronization
