The Epson L6270 is a high-quality EcoTank printer, but it operates on a forced maintenance cycle. As the printer cleans its nozzles, it pumps a small amount of ink into the internal waste ink pad. After several months or years of regular use, the printer's internal counter reaches a pre-determined maximum (often based on a limit of ~8,000 cleaning cycles). At this point, the printer's firmware triggers a lockdown, rendering the device inoperable. The printer may also throw an error specifically for the "Platen Pad Counter" or a "Maintenance Box Counter" requiring service.
